Matsuno
Matsuno is a little township on a tributary of the Shimanto River. Surrounded by mountains, with a wide and shallow river running through it, Matsuno is a typical inland Shikoku town. What sets it apart is its aquarium, the Osakanakan, with fish and amphibians from the Shimanto River, as well as massive fish from the Amazon River.
Another attraction of Matsuno is its traditional old sake brewery, home of the Yamabushi brand featuring a wandering samurai. And talking of samurai, Matsuno is home to the BBQ samurai who prepares delicious fish and meat grills at his BBQ Castle near Matsuno Station. You can stay at the BBQ Castle, and make use of the wonderful onsen inside the station building.
There are also a couple of rather fine statues of oni, or ogres, reflecting the name of the region which includes the Japanese character for these mythical beings.
