Katsurahama beach

Katsurahama Beach

Katsurahama Beach is located about 30 km south of Kōchi City on the picturesque Tosa Bay. Although swimming is prohibited due to dangerous waves and currents, there’s plenty else to enjoy. The beach has a small aquarium with a dolphin show, the Tosa Dog Fighting Centre, and the Ryōma Sakamoto Memorial Museum, with a huge bronze statue of this Japanese hero. There are also souvenir shops, and restaurants serving Kochi’s specialty, katsuo no tataki.

Besides beautiful pine trees, a crescent-shaped sweep of sand, and clear water, there’s a high rocky point with a small shrine. At night the beach is a popular spot for moon viewing.
