Iya Onsen
The Iya valley is located above a seam that produces hot springs, which feed the various accommodation in the region. Its water is characterised by a high mineral content that produces a wonderful slippery sensation.
Due to the steepness of the terrain in the valley, where the spring emerges is sometimes not quite where it’s convenient to place a hotel, so the outdoor baths are located above or below the accommodation itself, and a charming funicular railway takes you to the open air bath. The view from the bath changes with the seasons.
After a bath, a meal at the hotel featuring the local produce is a highly enjoyable and memorable experience.
