Kimono Experience in Dōgo
Tsubaki no Yu is one of Dōgo’s ‘other’ bathhouses. Just across the road from Tsubaki no Yu is Dōgo Kimono, a little salon that will dress you in an antique kimono of your choice, complete with the necessary footwear and all the accessories. In the summer, they’ll dress you in a cool yukata. Wearing your traditional Japanese finery, you can tour Dōgo and Matsuyama, drawing admiring looks wherever you go. Traditional cosplay is a great way to enhance your experience of this historic city!
The staff at Dōgo Kimono guide you through the steps of choosing a kimono that suits you. They have kimono and yukata to suit most body types.
Not far from Dōgo is Bansuisō, an elegant French-style château. You can get there on one of Matsuyama’s retro trams. It’s a great place to take photos in your Japanese finery. On Ropeway Dōri there are shops where you can buy your own antique kimono to take home. The choice and quality is fantastic. In Dōgo there are plenty of places to eat. Dōgo no Machiya has a bread-centred menu, served in a very stylish Japanese town house with inner gardens.
To memorialize your kimono day, you can go to a ‘game centre’ and pop into a ‘purikura’ booth. It’s like a passport photo thing, but much more fun. Figuring the damn thing out is part of the fun. Purikura is a uniquely Japanese experience. You get to digitally doodle on your photos if you want, and its AI smoothing always makes you look good!
Join us for a special day trip and enjoy your very own kimono experience in Dōgo.
