Miyoshi Winery
The high daytime and low nighttime temperatures around Miyoshi are ideal for growing high quality fruit, and the grapes produced here are used to make wine at the Miyoshi Winery.
The company’s own farms grow European varieties such as Syrah, Merlot, and Pinot Noir for red wine, while contract farmers grow Chardonnay for white wine, and Kōko, a Japanese variety. Some wines are made from 100% single varietals, while others are made from blends of multiple varietals to suit a particular purpose or image. The high-end Tomoé brand has won national and international awards.
Ōta Naoyuki, the Director and Winery Manager moved to New Zealand in 1997 and began working in the vineyards. On returning to Japan, he resolved to raise the standard of Japanese winemaking from the ground up, carefully controlling each step of the process right from cultivation of the grapes.
Miyoshi Winery stands at a crossroads on a gentle hillside in the southern suburbs of Miyoshi next to the Toretta farmers’ market and Okuda Gensō art gallery. The winery has a tasting room, a shop, a café, and a BBQ garden where you can enjoy locally produced Miyoshi beef with your wine.
