Sandankyo falls

Sandankyō Gorge

Sandankyō is a 16 km long gorge along the Shibaki River in Akiōta, Hiroshima. Walking courses range from a short stroll to an all-day trek. Boat rides to Kurobuchi Pool and Sarutobi Rock allow you to observe the colossal cliffs and untouched forest from the water. The forest around in the gorge consists of ancient conifers and various evergreens, and many of Japan’s abundant mosses are found here. Sandankyō was popularised by photographer Kuma Nanpō (1876–1943) who felt that the cliffs and cascading waterfalls were reminiscent of Chinese landscape paintings.
