Higashi-Iya Museum of Local History and Folklore
This little museum stands alone by the roadside in Oku-Iya. It holds a fascinating collection of exhibits documenting the history and traditional livelihood of this unique region. The authentic exhibits explain the story of the Heike refugees and the various industries such as forestry that the valley’s inhabitants pursued. There’s also a life-sized reconstruction of a mountainside home.
