Itinerary

  • Meet your guide at Fuchū City Jōge Historical and Cultural Museum. Start learning about the history of Jōge Town.

  • Visit Shinno Private Collection Museum. Step inside a beautifully preserved 150-year-old building and discover a hidden collection of samurai-era artifacts and treasures.

  • Visit Jōge Christian Church, originally built in 1887 as a traditional storehouse with a steeple-like watchtower, later transformed into a church by the Oue family, and explore its serene Japanese garden designed by a Kyoto landscape artist.

  • Visit Okinaza, a historic wooden theater built in 1925. There are screens that are moved manually and an underground space which was dug by hand and are still intact.

  • Experience a traditional Japanese tea ceremony in a historic home, where local hosts will guide you through the art of tea preparation and etiquette.

  • Explore private collections at Suehiro & Hitoyasumi where usually closed to the public, including a former sake brewery museum and a folk doll exhibition. You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase unique antiques.

  • At Jōge Gallery, browse a unique selection of antiques and historical furnishings collected by the owner—some of which are available for purchase. You’ll also visit the former sake brewery, Shigemori Main Store, owned by the same collector, where even more of her private collection is on display.

  • Return to Fuchū City Jōge Historical and Cultural Museum. The tour ends at the station.
